What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?

The trope that annoys me most is when everything happens because God has some mysterious plan.

Especially in recovery stories.

Someone gets sober, and suddenly God gets all the credit.

Meanwhile, the person actually getting sober did the uncomfortable work.

They showed up, changed shit, made amends, and kept going when life sucked.

However, apparently God was handling the whole operation from upstairs.

I believe in something bigger than myself.

I just don’t believe there’s some cosmic dude moving us around like chess pieces.

For me, that something bigger is nature and the people walking beside me.

Nature doesn’t need a mysterious plan.

Sometimes shit just happens.

Then, we decide what we’re going to do with it.

Besides, if God really controls everything, I’d like to discuss the freeloading squirrels currently emptying my bird feeder.

Those little bastards clearly answer to nobody.
