Dare to Dream, Then Figure Out How to Get There

What’s your best tip for budget travel?

My first thought when I read today’s prompt was, “Well, this doesn’t really fit with my long-term addiction recovery stuff.”

So, I almost skipped it.

Then I sat down with my coffee and read today’s Just For Today, New Horizons.

And there it was.

“We start to budget money to travel, even if it’s only with a tent to a nearby campsite. In recovery, we find out what interests us and pursue new pastimes. We dare to dream.”

Well, shit.

There’s my answer.

Dare to dream.

Budget travel doesn’t have to mean finding the cheapest flight or surviving three days on gas-station peanuts.

Sometimes, it means deciding there’s somewhere you want to go.

Then, you start putting a few bucks aside.

Maybe it’s Hawaii someday.

Maybe it’s Colorado next spring.

Or maybe it’s a tent, a campfire, and somewhere you’ve never explored two hours from home.

Recovery gave me something addiction slowly took away.

The ability to imagine a future worth planning for.

So, my best budget travel tip?

Dare to dream first.

Then figure out how the hell you’re going to get there.
