What is the last thing you learned?

The Joy of Learning Something New

Learning something new every day is like finding an extra chicken nugget in my fast-food meal—it’s a delightful surprise that makes the whole experience ten times better. It’s thrilling, it’s like a shot of espresso to your brain, and it keeps my mental gears greased up and ready to roll. But let’s face it, sometimes traditional learning feels like trying to thread a needle with boxing gloves on—frustrating and likely to end in tears or a nap.

So here’s a wacky idea: why not keep your brain as entertained as a cat with a laser pointer by learning something new each day? My grandpa, who was as wise as he was eccentric, used to say, “The day you stop learning is the day you start turning into a human-shaped rock.” A bit extreme, sure, but the man had a point sharper than a porcupine at a balloon animal convention.

He was basically saying that if you’re not absorbing some fresh factoid or skill, you might as well be furniture. And nobody wants to be furniture, right? Unless you’re aspiring to be the world’s most convincing cosplayer of a coffee table. So, let’s dodge that dusty fate and keep our neurons firing like a popcorn machine—loud, messy, and in all directions. Because when it comes down to it, learning is the life-long party in your cranium, and you’re the one blowing the noisemakers.

Embracing a Humorous Approach

Imagine diving into the deep sea of knowledge, where textbooks are less like dusty old tomes and more like treasure chests brimming with giggles. Picture a world where every chapter comes with a side of chuckles and teachers serve up puns so deliciously hilarious that even the class clown tips his hat in respect.

Sure, expecting academia to turn into a full-blown comedy club might be as far-fetched as a penguin mastering quantum physics, but hey, we can certainly smuggle a whoopee cushion or two onto our own educational roller coaster ride.

Think about it: your brain is like a sponge at a party, and humor is the fizzy soda that makes absorbing information feel like a delightful burp of enlightenment. When you lace your study sessions with laughter, even the driest material becomes as flavorful as a slice of pizza topped with your favorite, most absurd toppings—like pineapple and gummy bears, because why not?

Crafting mnemonic devices that tickle your funny bone can transform the act of memorization from a grueling trek through the desert of Boredomville to a joyous jaunt around the amusement park of your mind.

So, while we may not be able to convince the powers that be to publish algebra textbooks with jokes as complex as the equations, we can definitely turn our personal learning escapades into a carnival of hilarity. After all, if life gives you lemons, why not make lemonade—and then squirt it in the eye of monotony?

My Hilarious Learning Journey

Maybe for me it is easier. As a blogger, I am constantly researching topics for you delightful readers. I try to learn as much as I can about the topic I’m writing so I don’t bore you to death with a bunch of AI written mumbo jumbo. So, What is the last thing I learned?

Well, in my last blog, “Coming Out“, I learned a few new ways to address a difficult topic. How to respond to the annoying question, “what is it like to have a transgender child?” With this, I believe there is always an opportunity to turn any difficult conversation into a positive one. Much like I do with my blogs. Sometimes hard topics, but always with a humorous and positive twist.

Like what you need to know about boredom. Imagine boredom as that one uninvited guest who crashes your cozy Sunday party, sprawls on your couch, and insists on showing you their vacation slides from 2007. So, what’s the escape plan? You could dig a tunnel under your house with a spoon, hoping to find a gnome tea party, or maybe learn to juggle while speaking pig Latin. You could count squirrels on a walk, invent bizarre kitchen concoctions, or knit a sweater for your goldfish. Whatever it takes to dodge the clingy clutches of boredom and reclaim the joy it so sneakily tries to assassinate.

Unveiling the Quirkiest Websites

In my quest for knowledge, I stumbled upon five websites that have become my go-to sources for learning something new in just 30 minutes a day. These websites are not only informative but also packed with humor and funny analogies that make the learning process a joyride.

  1. Skillshare: Embark on a digital adventure with Skillshare, where creativity flows like a river of rainbow-colored paint and knowledge blooms like a garden of brainy sunflowers. It’s like a virtual playground for curious minds, where you can swing from graphic design to photography and slide into animation classes, all while sipping on the sweet nectar of a 30-day free trial.
  2. Hackaday: Hackaday is like a mad scientist’s lab where tech enthusiasts gather to tinker with gadgets and unleash their inner MacGyver. It’s a digital playground where creativity runs wild, like a herd of caffeinated unicorns on a sugar rush.
  3. 7-min: Navigating through 7-min.com is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but instead of a needle, you find a treasure chest full of bite-sized wisdom nuggets that make your brain do a happy dance.
  4. Calm: Step into the magical land of calm.com, where stress melts away like ice cream on a hot summer day, and relaxation flows through your veins like a lazy river on a Sunday afternoon. It’s like a cozy blanket for your mind, wrapping you up in tranquility and serenity with just a click of a button.
  5. Khan Academy: Khan Academy is like a magical library where you can learn about everything from algebra to art history, all while feeling like you’re being personally tutored by a friendly robot unicorn. It’s the online learning equivalent of finding a hidden treasure chest full of knowledge nuggets and brain-boosting gems.
