Welcome to Trailblazers Unite—Where Nature and Honesty Collide

Trailblazers Unite is shedding the bullshit. We’re talking real, raw recovery rooted in nature, and if that doesn’t sound pretty or polished, good. Because life sure as hell isn’t. I’ve spent too much time trying to force myself into being someone who I wasn’t. Someone who felt sterilized and filled with fake positivity. I felt like I was trying to clean up blood with a paper towel—completely pointless and I just made bigger messes.
This new direction is all about brutal honesty. And by brutal, I mean the kind of truth that feels like sandpaper against raw nerves. Because recovery isn’t pretty. It’s not neat or inspirational in the Hallmark-card way some people like to paint it. It’s fucking hard, and that’s the reality I’m choosing to talk about.
I’ve written a lot of content over the last few years. All real and true. Some of it I believe was damn good too. Although, I always had this idea in my mind that it was content I threw together on a whim because Google said it was trending. Not what was deep in my soul.
Why I’m Flipping the Script on Trailblazers Unite
So, I’m taking Trailblazers Unite in a different direction from here on out. Some of the content might just piss a few the fuck off. And that is okay. Hell, I’m a Gen-Xer. I’m not supposed to give a shit about what people think, right?
Well, that’s not the real reason I’ve decided to make this change in content. No, it’s because an addict is who I am. An addict who takes recovery very seriously. Daily. Sometimes, minute-by-minute! But more importantly, it’s what I know. It’s what someone, just might need to hear today.
Trailblazers Unite: Raw, real recovery rooted in nature. LGBTQIA+ inclusive. DEI-friendly. Healing through wildness, honesty, and community. And if that sounds like your vibe, then stick around.
Why Brutal Honesty is the Core of Raw Recovery
Let’s be real—most of the recovery conversations out there are wrapped up in shiny little bows, presented in a way that’s supposed to be digestible and uplifting. But my journey has been more of a gnarly tangle of roots and thorns than a walk down a neatly paved path. It’s been messy, painful, and unfiltered. The whole ‘clean and serene’ narrative? Yeah, that never fit.
I spent too long trying to fit into these glossy frameworks of recovery that felt more like marketing schemes than genuine healing. It was always about trying to meet some standard of recovery that looked good on paper but felt like garbage in real life.
Now, don’t mistake me here and give up on this blog. I do attend AA and NA meetings on the regular. Although I didn’t for a long while. And while I didn’t relapse but I do believe now that I may have been very close. For the umpteenth time. Been there, done that. And to be completely transparent, I don’t think I have another “recovery” in me.
Why Cookie-Cutter Recovery Never Worked for Me
Not all AA and NA meetings are the same and I get that. The ones I choose to make my “home-groups” are similar to what you’re going to see from Trailblazers Unite. Real. Raw. And Unfiltered. Some are like church. Some, let’s face it, are just plain ass weird. Church isn’t my scene. I have been told I am a bit weird. But I want to share my journey with you. Gen-X style you could say.
So, I’m ditching the sanitized version of recovery and embracing the real shit. The messy, contradictory, stumbling journey where progress sometimes feels like a joke. Because pretending it’s all pink Unicorns and rainbows never helped me heal. Bible verses and praying to a God I don’t believe in didn’t keep me from picking up a bottle.
Talking with a counselor once or twice a week didn’t cut it for me either. That was on me though. I rarely was honest or gave them the entire story. It wasn’t until I was ready to be completely honest with myself. And surround myself with like minded fuck-ups who were real and raw, that I truly began to understand who I was. Who I wanted to be. Where I wanted to go.
Facing the ugly, the brutal, and the raw? That’s where the real work happens.
Nature and Raw Recovery: My Higher Power Without Hand-Holding

Nature doesn’t give a damn about my recovery journey. It doesn’t care if I’ve hit rock bottom or if I’m on some spiritual high. It just exists, indifferent and unapologetic. And weirdly, that was the most comforting thing I ever encountered.
When everything else felt hollow or laced with expectations, nature’s indifference was like a slap to the face—in the best way possible. The forest doesn’t give a fuck if I’m sober or shit-faced. It’s just there. The mountains don’t judge; they just stand. The rivers keep flowing whether I’m falling apart or pulling myself back together.
That’s the kind of higher power I needed. Something wild, something untamed, something that mirrored the chaos inside me without trying to tame it. Nature didn’t coddle me or promise salvation. It just existed, and somehow, that was enough.
I’m not saying that I pray to some Mother-Nature. It’s the examples, the awesomeness, and the power that I see in nature that reminds me, I am powerless. That is my understanding of a Higher-Power as I understand it, as the program says it.
Storytelling That Doesn’t Skip the Ugly Shit
This isn’t just about me vomiting my trauma all over the internet for the sake of clicks. It’s about connection. It’s about telling the stories I wish someone else had been brave enough to share when I was at my lowest.
Some of what I share with you going forward you won’t relate to. Some you will. The most important thing I’ve learned so far in my own personal recovery journey is this. I have a story to share and I am not alone. I hear my story often in the meeting rooms. And if I am hearing my own story, well, I can sure as shit say that someone may need to hear me say it.
Raw recovery is messy and contradictory. And if I’m going to tell my story, I’m going to tell all of it. The fucked-up parts, the hopeless parts, the parts that make people uncomfortable. And the parts that are, let’s be honest, hilarious looking back on them now. Why? Because real healing happens when you stop editing yourself for someone else’s comfort. That’s what I’m here for.
Maybe selfish. But not egotistical. My sponsor told me once, putting my recovery first isn’t selfish. It means that as I make my recovery my number one priority, then I can be of better service to another.
I’m not here to hand you answers or pretend I’ve got everything figured out. I’m here to share my experience, raw and unfiltered. Maybe you’ll see yourself in it. Maybe you won’t. But if nothing else, you’ll get the truth.
What You’re Signing Up for at Trailblazers Unite
From now on, Trailblazers Unite is a space for the raw, the real, and the unapologetically honest. If you’re looking for polished inspiration or a feel-good recovery tale, you’re in the wrong place. But if you’re sick of the bullshit, if you want to hear about recovery from someone who’s knee-deep in the mud, then welcome.
I’m also working on a 7-book series diving into my personal journey through each of the 12 Steps. Not the sugar-coated version, but the real, raw, fucked-up truth of it all. It’s called “Nature, Numbness & No More Bullshit: A Real AF Raw Recovery Series.”
This series is my way of pulling back the curtain and showing you what recovery really looks like for me. It’s not pretty, it’s not polished, but it’s real. And for me, that’s what matters. It isn’t about me telling you how to work the steps. Pure and simple, it is my hike, through the untamed trail of my own recovery from addiction. A hike that never ends.
Join or Fuck Off (But Seriously, Join Us)

This space isn’t for everyone. And that’s okay. I’m not here to please everyone or fit into someone else’s idea of what recovery should look like. If you’ve read this far then you already know I’m not holding any punches back.
Much of the internet will put “Advisory” labels on my content. Like going to the music or game store. Do they still have those? Albums marked with, “Explicit” or “Uncensored”. I cuss and swear. Some studies argue that I may have a higher IQ than most because of how much I use that type of language. I’ll take that.
Bottom line, I’m here to tell my story, raw and real recovery. Take it or leave it.
If you’re down for the ride, welcome to Trailblazers Unite. And if not, well… don’t let the door hit you in your ass on the way out.
If you’re tired of sugar-coated recovery bullshit, you’re in the right place.
